MLB／Cole發威 小熊進季後賽再等等

海盜隊Gerrit Cole先發7局失1分，不讓小熊隊在他的手中打進季後賽；此戰最後海盜3比2擊敗小熊，7連勝，Gerrit Cole贏得本季個人第18勝（8敗）。
小熊隊要以國家聯盟外卡第二名資格晉級季後賽的魔術數字只剩下「1」，也就是說只要今天贏海盜，就能晉級，但他們突破不了Cole的封鎖線。不過稍後若巨人隊輸給運動家隊，小熊仍可繼2008年之後，首度打進季後賽。
此戰Gerrit Cole與小熊Jon Lester對決，3局上Cole自己擊出安打，送回1分，小熊4局下Kris Bryant、Anthony Rizzo連敲安打，Addison Russell的內野滾地球，打回1分，兩隊1比1平手。
海盜隊7局上Aramis Ramirez、Michael Morse連敲安打，突破平手僵局，8局上Jordy Mercer「不死三振」上壘，Pedro Alvarez先敲安打，Starling Marte的內野滾地球打回第3分；Jon Lester先發7局被擊出5支安打失2分，吞敗投（10勝12敗）。
海盜隊9局下「守護神」 Mark Melancon登板，雖失1分，但保住勝利，本季第51場救援成功，Gerrit Cole拿下第18勝，是海盜隊史自1991年John Smiley（20勝8敗）之後的最佳成績。
